The Þingvellir National Park sits atop of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, and in 2004 it was declared and preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. WebÞingvellir is a fantastic national park close to the capital area. It has a stunning lake and is surrounded by mountains and wilderness. The trail starts from the parking lot and takes the Sandhólastígur path in order to reach the lake. From there it goes to the fissure of Silfra, which is very popular for diving and snorkeling.
