On the X1 printers the LIDAR enables them to set this by printing a few lines then looking at them closely with the LIDAR. On the P1 printers you have to print an object, look at it, and then set the value. It also is used as a second check when setting Z 0.

WebP1P is giving me incredible print results at breakneck speed! However, the software is crap and it sometimes takes hours (!) to get the models over to the printer because of wifi issues with the printer. This seems to be normal, hopefully can be fixed in a future firmware upgrade, or something. M5 has a camera for monitoring prints.
